SLPP to sack nearly 200 local councilors.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has decided to remove nearly 200 members who had submitted nominations to contest under other political parties or alliances for the upcoming local government elections.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said that certain SLPP members who had been elected to local bodies via the SLPP in the last election are now preparing to contest under other political alliances for the upcoming polls.
He said that letters are being issued to the nearly 200 members of the SLPP who have decided to contest under other political alliances for the upcoming local government elections.
Sagara Kariyawasam further said that prompt measures will be taken to remove those party members and replace them with new members.
The SLPP General Secretary made the remarks while addressing a gathering of the party’s Badulla District contestants for the upcoming election, which was held in Badulla yesterday (07).
